Who says Halloween is just for kids? There are so many ways us adults can embrace the fun Halloween spirit. My favourite way to celebrate is by creating Halloween themed cocktails and inviting my friends over for a scary, (maybe not-so-scary) movie and drinks! Here are 5 Halloween cocktails you can serve at your party or small get together. If you’re staying in, pour one for yourself and indulge in your favourite candy bar while at it.
1. Eyeball Martini
If you’re looking to serve a creepy, but sophisticated Halloween cocktail at your party, look no further! These refreshing lychee cranberry martinis will sure be eye-catching!
The Libbey Hamlet Cosmo Glasses were my glass of choice because they’re timeless and elegant with a heavy base for less spillage at parties.
Ingredients
- 2oz of vodka
- 1oz of lychee liqueur
- 1 splash of cranberry juice
- Peeled and pitted lychees and blueberries for eyeballs
- Ice
Instructions
- Add ice, vodka, lychee liqueur, and cranberry juice into a shaker. Shake well and strain into a martini glass.
- Push one blueberry into the middle of each lychee to achieve an eyeball. Garnish by letting them float in the cocktail or use a toothpick to pierce through the eyeballs and lay on top of martini glass.
2. Spiked Candy Corn
Candy corn is a staple during the Halloween season. The colourful combo of yellow, orange and white really brings out the Halloween spirit. To replicate these cute sugary candies, I took mini shot glasses and layered them with gelatin. The Tuscany Flared Shot Glasses have a similar shape to candy corn, which make them the most fitting glasses to use.
Ingredients:
- 1 small box of pineapple jello
- 1 small box of orange jello
- 1 envelope unflavoured gelatin
- 1 can unsweetened condensed milk
- 2.5 cups of vodka divided (optional)
- ½ cups of water
Instructions:
- Pour ¾ cups of boiling water into a small bowl. Add pineapple mix and stir until dissolved. Pour 1-cup vodka into the mix. Let cool and fill shot glasses 1/3 of the way up. Refrigerate until pineapple Jell-o is set. At least 90 minutes.
- Pour ¾ cups of boiling water into a small bowl. Add orange mix and stir until dissolved. Pour 1-cup vodka into the mix. Let cool and add a layer over the pineapple jell-o in the shot glasses. Refrigerate until pineapple Jell-o is set. At least 90 minutes.
- Pour 2 tablespoons warm water into a bowl. Add unflavoured gelatin and stir until dissolved. Stir in condensed milk and the rest of vodka. Pour mixture over orange layer. Refrigerate until top layer is set. At least 60 minutes.
3. Devil Hot Caesars
Caesars are such a classic and versatile cocktail. With just one simple garnish we can turn this popular beverage into a Halloween cocktail. Long pencil hot peppers turned upside down remind me of horns, which inspired me to create a devil. The Zwilling Sorrento Tumbler Glasses were the perfect fit to deliver a devil like silhouette. Also, these glasses are double wall insulated, which means they’re great for keeping hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold for a longer period of time!
Ingredients
- 5 cups of Clamato
- 2 ounces vodka (optional)
- 4 dashes of Tabasco hot sauce
- 4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
- Pinch of ground back pepper
- Celery salt & lime to rim glasses
- Red pencil hot pepper for garnish
- Ice
Instructions
- Rim glass with celery salt by running a cut lime across the edge then dipping the edge of glass in celery salt.
- Add ice, Clamato, vodka, Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce in a shaker. Shake to combine.*Tip: Add a tablespoon of horseradish to give it an extra kick!
- Pour into a glass and add a pinch of pepper. Cut a slit at the bottom of pencil peppers to let them sit on the rim. This will achieve horns for the garnish.
4. Queen of Hearts
“Off with his head!” Just like the Queen of Hearts once said, this drink is feisty and powerful. It’s similar in taste to a Long Island ice tea, but a little bit sweeter and fruiter. The combination of the black colour and the sleek Bormioli Rocco Electra Wine Glasses make them the perfect creepy Halloween drink!
Ingredients
- 0.5 oz Vodka
- 0.5 oz Gin
- 0.5 oz Rum
- 0.5 oz Triple Sec
- 0.5 oz Blackberry Liqueur
- 0.5 oz Blue Curacao
- 1 oz Lemonade
- 1.5 oz Sweet and Sour
- 1 Strawberry (optional)
- Ice
- Dry Ice (optional)
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a shaker. Shake well and strain cocktail into a glass.
- Garnish with a strawberry cut into a shape of a heart
- Add dry ice for smoke effect. (I suggest using dry ice only if you know how to handle it. It can be dangerous if not stored or used correctly).
5. The Sour Frankenstein
Doesn’t the shape of these Trudeau Savour Stemless Wine Glasses look like a Frankenstein head? That inspired me to come up with this next cocktail: The Sour Frankenstein. Just like in the name, it delivers a sour and sweet taste with nuances of apple and lime with a boozy tequila punch fit for a Halloween party. You’ll easily bolt this one down
Ingredients
- 1 ½ oz tequila
- 1 ½ oz sour apple liqueur
- 1 oz lime juice
- Sprite to taste
- Black sugar to rim glass (optional)
- Ice
Instructions
- Rim glass with black sugar by running a cut lime across the edge then dipping the edge of glass into the black sugar.
- Fill a shaker with ice and mix in tequila, sour apple liqueur and lime juice.
- Shake well and strain cocktail into a glass.
Cheers to a Spooktacular Halloween! Enjoy a creepy cocktail or two, and always remember to drink reasonably.
