Here’s an easy and cheap way to craft gingerbread man ornaments! It’s way faster than baking and you’ll be able to reuse them year after year. They turned out super cute and realistic too, and the best part is I made 36 ornaments for under $12!!! Here’s how you can make your own and don’t forget to check out my video tutorial over on Instagram @allstylelife.
Supplies
- Light brown foam sheets (I used two 12 x 18 inch sheets)
- Gingerbread man cookie cutter
- White acrylic paint
- Squeeze bottle with a narrow tip
- Hole punch
- Scissors
- Ribbon
(I bought all my supplies at the dollar store 👍🏽😊)
Directions
- I decided to use foam sheets because it gives a similar texture of a cookie. It’s also easy to work it. You could also use felt or cardboard, but in my opinion, the foam sheets really make this craft. Take your gingerbread cookie cutter and press firmly into the foam sheet. This will eliminate the extra step of tracing out each gingerbread man shape. Align them close together so you can fit as many men onto the sheet.
2. Cut along the cookie cutter line
3. Use a hole punch to make a hole on the top centre of the head for the string
4. Pour your white paint into a squeeze bottle or change out the tip.
5. Slowly start painting on the icing. Tip: Don’t let the tip touch the foam! This will make the icing look even… although don’t sweat if it’s not prefect. It actually looks more realistic when there’s imperfections. I did a simple traditional gingerbread man look, but feel free to get creative.
6. Let all the ornaments completely dry. I let mine dry over night.
7. Use any ribbon to string through the hole. Make a loop and tie a bow at the top.
And that’s it! Easy DIY gingerbread man ornaments! I love that I’ll be able to reuse them again. Next year I’m thinking of finally changing up my tree colours, so all I’ll have to do is switch out the ribbon for a new ribbon colour to match whatever my theme will be. 🙌🏽
