DIY MACRAME SANTA

Back with another DIY holiday craft! These macrame Santas are so cute and can be very versatile. Use them as ornaments, gift toppers, wall decor, or even table gifts. They’re quite easy to make too and all supplies can be purchased at the dollar store. Here’s the full breakdown and supplies you need to make them…

Supplies

  • Rope
  • White and Red Yarn
  • Wooden Bead
  • Glue Gun
  • Scissors
  • Tape

Instructions

You’ll need rope like this to start. As previously mentioned all supplies can be purchased at the dollar store.

  1. Cut 3 pieces of rope. I made mine about 10 inches long. You can adjust the size depending on how big you want your Santa to be. Also the measurements of all 3 pieces do not need to be accurate because you’ll be trimming the ends later on. Make sure to put tape on the ends right after you cut them or else they’ll start to unravel.

2. It’s hard to write out, but if you look at the pictures below, you can see that I left some space at the bottom of the rope for his beard. Taking one rope at a time, start wrapping the white yarn about mid-way making a small layer. Use red next, and then finished with white again. You want to do this for two pieces.

TIP! Make sure to wrap your yarn tight together around the rope. You don’t want any of the rope to be seen through the yarn.

3. The third piece is a little different. You start with the white, but continue longer with the red. This will create the rest of his hat. I just eyeballed how long I wanted it to be.

4. Once all three pieces are done, you want to glue it onto a piece of fabric to keep it in place. I used a piece of felt. *Make sure to glue the pieces tightly together. You can see the picture below that the hat is now in place.

5. Cut the excess fabric off

6. Glue a knotted piece of string to the back of the Santa.

7. Take a small wooden bead and thread through a short piece of rope to form the nose & moustache

8. Glue the bead onto your Santa. If you want, you could also add small black beads for his eyes!

9. Unravel the beard and comb it out.

10. Trim his beard to your desired length. I made his beard a little longer in the centre. Don’t forget to trim his moustache and the fringe on his hat too!

Your macrame Santa is complete! 😃 Isn’t he so cute?!!
