EASY WAYS TO ORGANIZE A SMALL KITCHEN

Organizing a small kitchen can be challenging. Every single inch has to work twice as hard to accommodate a limited amount of space. In my little condo kitchen, I have a total of 4 drawers and very few cabinets! The good news is that, with the right storage systems, your small kitchen can feel twice as big. Here are some products, ideas and a few tips to help you create a well-organized and functional kitchen.

Tackling Your Drawers

Step One:

To maximize your drawers, start off by purging! Keep only kitchen items you need/use on a regular basis.

If you own multiple sets of accessories or have duplicate appliances, it’s time to part ways and donate make space. Also, if you have any fancy china that you take out only once a year, store them away instead of wasting valuable everyday storage space. Once you’ve narrowed down your essentials, it’ll be much easier to organize the perfect configuration in your drawers.

Step Two:

The easiest way to organize is by using drawer inserts. You’ll be able to see everything and know that each time you return to your kitchen, your items will be in the exact same place instead of sliding around and getting shifted to the back.

The iDesign Collection at Kitchen Stuff Plus is my pick for best in functionality. The collection has so many options and sizes to accommodate your small kitchen needs.  The durable clear plastic dividers give a clean feel and allow you to see your items with ease. It also features a ribbing detail on the bottom and non-silicon feet to prevent sliding around in your drawers.

Here are some helpful tips to make your trip to Kitchen Stuff Plus easy:

  • Measure out all your drawers before heading to the store. I brought a measuring tape with me to make the process a little faster.
  • Make sure to look at what kitchen tools and accessories you own and know a rough estimate of their sizes. This will help with picking out the proper sizes for your compartments.
  • Don’t be shy to lay them out at the store and play around with different layout possibilities until you are satisfied.
Measure your drawers before going in-store, and bring that measuring tape with you.

Step Three:

Time for the fun part: Organizing!  Let’s break down the drawers one-by-one.

The most used drawer in my small kitchen is the utensil drawer, so like most, I make it my top drawer. I use the iDesign Linus Expandable Cutlery Tray and love how I can customize it’s size and expand it out to 20”. For cooking knives, I suggest putting them in a stylish knife block that can be displayed on your counter.

The second drawer down, I use to put all my kitchen accessories in. I combined different sizes of the iDesign Linus Organizers to create my own customized organizer. My favourite piece is the iDesign Linus 2-Tier Drawer Organizer.  It features two shallow upper compartments and two deep lower compartments to make the most out of my storage space.

My third drawer from the top holds all my kitchen wrap storage, tea towels, napkins and oven mitts. I used the iDesign Linus 6”x 15” and the iDesign Linus 6” x 9” Drawer Organizers to prevent my tea towels from shifting around. The Delicious Cotton Mini Oven Mitts are the perfect size for fitting into drawers without taking up too much space.

The fourth and last drawer down, I made into a mini pantry. I chose the KSP Easy Lock Canisters  because of their unique look, and most importantly because of their clear lids, which make finding things easier in a drawer. They come in all shapes and sizes and come with airtight lids. They’re perfect for stacking in cupboards too.
