HALLOWEEN DIY WITCH HATS

Halloween is close to a week away; Woohoo!  Have you decorated yet? Here’s a really cute idea I found all over Pinterest that I absolutely love.  I like holiday decor pieces that are simple, but make a huge impact to the area.  I totally just “winged-it” on my own with these hats and they turned out pretty good, so I thought I’d share how I made mine and give you the exact measurements I used.  Now, if you aren’t a crafty person, you could always go and buy some witch hats and hang them, but these hats only cost me $3.50 to make all three!  And honestly they are very easy to make and would make a fun afternoon activity with the kids.  Follow along my picture tutorial to see how to make them…

MATERIALS

To make one hat you will need:

black bristol board

pencil

scissors

ruler

glue

string

tape

Size measurements for hats…

For the point:  Big – 35cm / Medium – 33.5cm / Small – 31.5cm

For the brim:  (Diameter) Big – outside 40cm, inside 15.5cm / Medium – outside 35cm, inside 14cm / Small – outside 30cm, inside 13cm

1.  Use the corner of the bristol board to measure out the point of the hat  2.  Measure out the diameter of the outside of the hat

3.  Cut out the two shapes.  Measure out the inside of the circle for the brim  4.  Add teeth to the inside of the circle and cut out

5.  Fold back the teeth  6.  Start making the point of the hat by rolling it into a cone.  Use glue of your choice to hold together.  Make sure to glue right at the edge.

7.  Put glue on the outside of the teeth  8. Attach to the brim to the point  9.  Add string by threading it through the little hole at the top.  Use tape to hold the string in place.

And there you have it…  floating witch hats!  How easy was that?!

Have fun DIY-ing & decorating for Halloween!  Let me know what your costume is this year in the comment section below.  I would love to know 🙂
